Welcome to Jordan! We'll greet you at the airport and transfer you to the beautiful Jordan Intercontinental Hotel. Here you'll meet your tour guide for a briefing on your upcoming adventure. Should you plan to arrive a day earlier, we encourage you to explore this fascinating city, and its unique blend of old and new. From your hotel you can explore downtown Amman, including monuments and a citadel cut into a hillside. Your guide can advise you on the best sights.

DAY 2

Amman to Madaba, Mt Nebo and the Dead Sea

Cycling: 37 km (approx. 2.5 hours), 100 m up, 1300 m down

Firstly we head to the city of Madaba, 30 km from Amman. We'll see an amazing church with a 6th Century Mosaic Map of Palestine. Then, enjoy delicious Jordanian and Middle-Eastern cuisine at a popular restaurant. Next, your cycling guide will equip you with a suitable bike and helmet. Our first ride is 10 km to Mt Nebo (called Pisgah in The Bible). Here, Moses is said to have viewed the Promised Land. You'll see the Dead Sea, the West Bank, the Jordan River and on a clear day, Bethlehem and Jerusalem. Next, it's a 1000 m downhill to the lowest place on Earth: the Dead Sea.

DAY 3

Dead Sea to Feynan

Cycling: approx. 24 km (1.5 hours), 250 m up, 210 m down

This morning, relax at your beachside hotel and float in the famously salty and buoyant Dead Sea, one of the lowest points on earth (400 m below sea level). The high salinity (9 x that of regular oceans) makes it inhospitable to plant and animal life. However, its waters are known to aid some human ailments. This afternoon, we'll bike to the impressive Wadi Mujib Bridge. We then drive to the Feynan Ecolodge in the Dana Biosphere Reserve, in the heart of Wadi Feynan desert area. This lodge was judged one of the world's top 50 ecolodges by National Geographic Adventure Magazine.

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 4

Feynan to Petra

No cycling

After breakfast in serene Feynan desert surroundings, we'll transfer through a scenic mountain road to the ancient city of Petra, famously described as "a rose-red city, as old as time". Our guided Petra tour starts with a walk through a gloomy, kilometre-long chasm into another world. There are monuments, temples, tombs, arched gateways and entire streets carved into the colourful sandstone. We'll have lunch at a restaurant there, and explore a little more before heading to our motel at nearby Wadi Musa (the "Valley of Moses").

Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

DAY 5

Petra: Shobak Castle and bike to Little Petra

Cycling: approx. 30 km (2.5 hours), 380 m up, 660 m down

This morning you are free to do as you please and this afternoon we'll drive to Shoubak, one of the highest places in Jordan. Explore the remains of Shobak Castle – one in the great chain of Crusader fortresses which stretch across Jordan. The stronghold, known as Montreal, was built in 1115. Then, a pleasant bike ride follows the ancient King's Highway to Hisheh, followed by a scenic descent to beautiful Little Petra, thought to have been a suburb of Petra. We'll explore the site before returning to our hotel in Wadi Musa.

Meals: Breakfast

DAY 6

Petra to Wadi Rum

Cycling: approx. 50 km (5 hours), 270 m up, 1000 m down

We'll rejoin the King's Highway, then drive to Rajif (1565 m). Now on our bikes, we ride through amazing desert landscapes and past Bedouin camps, before we stop for lunch at an old caravan station. We'll jump in the van again to Rum Bedouin village to meet our Bedouin host, in the heart of the Wadi Rum desert Protected Area. After a jeep tour and some short walks around rock arches and canyons, we can watch the desert sunset from our Bedouin campsite. Tonight, a traditional meal of zarb, a traditional dish of meat and vegetables cooked beneath the sand.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 7

Wadi Rum to Aqaba and the Red Sea

Cycling: approx 25 km

After breakfast in the serenity of the desert, our jeeps will take us to the nearby mudflats of Disi — a vast and flat area surrounded by amazing sandstone formations. After riding past these colourful and massive sandstone mountains, we say farewell to our Bedouin friends and drive south to the coastal city of Aqaba. At our beach resort by the Red Sea, spend the rest of the day swimming, snorkelling or just enjoying the view with a cold glass in hand, the choice is yours!
