Surf beaches, rugged cliffs, the iconic 12 Apostles, lighthouses, waterfalls, bush — Australia's most famous road awaits.

The 243 km Great Ocean Road (B100) is one of the world's greatest roads, and was built by returned WWI soldiers. Walk in its rainforests, cycle into a dormant volcano, and have the time of your life, whether you like moderate or long cycling distances.

We'll ride the road from west to east. We'll discover its diverse environments and rich maritime past, including the reasons why the Shipwreck Coast got its name.

Full Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival Day: Melbourne to Port Fairy

No cycling

Welcome to the tour! We'll pick you up from your accommodation in Melbourne (between 9 and 10 am) or from Melbourne Airport (10.30 to 11 am). Then we'll drive via Colac and the A1 highway to the city of Warrnambool, near the western end of the Great Ocean Road. We'll stop for lunch here, then take you to your accommodation in the beautiful coastal town of Port Fairy. You'll have a chance to get your bike out this evening and go for a ride around the area, or stretch your legs with a walk around Griffith Island. This evening we'll get together at a local restaurant.

Meals: No meals included

DAY 2

Port Fairy to Port Campbell

Cycling: 68–95 km

Today we will experience the beautiful and rugged coastline formed 10–20 million years ago and weathered by the force of the Southern Ocean into amazing shapes and landmarks. We'll stop at the Bay of Islands Coastal Park and the Bay of Martyrs, in an area known as the 'shipwreck coast'. We'll finish the day in the small tourist town of Port Campbell. For intermediate cyclists, we recommend the 68 km from Port Fairy to Nirranda South. Advanced cyclists may prefer to bike all the way to Port Campbell (95 km).

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks

DAY 3

Port Campbell to Apollo Bay

Cycling: 63–97 km

Today we'll cycle to Cape Otway National Park and visit the iconic weather-carved structures of the Twelve Apostles, formed over thousands of years. We visit Loch Ard Gorge, site of Victoria's most tragic shipwreck over 120 years ago, where 52 people died as the Loch Ard ran into the cliffs along the coastline. We'll stay in the quite coastal town of Apollo Bay. We suggest intermediate cyclists ride the 63 km from Port Campbell to Glenaire, and advanced cyclists 97 km to our destination.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks

DAY 4

Apollo Bay to Torquay

Cycling: 73–91 km

Today's ride is yet another filled with stunning views and long sandy beaches. Cycle all the way to Torquay (91 km) if you like; passing through several of Victoria's most popular tourist towns, including Lorne and Anglesea. We'll stay in a motel at Torquay, at the Great Ocean Road's eastern end. Torquay is known for its surfing beaches. Bells Beach, home of the world's longest-running surf competition, is on the outskirts of town.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks

DAY 5

Torquay to Melbourne

Cycling: 50–110 km

Start the day with a ferry trip across Port Phillip Bay to the township of Sorrento (you can take your bike with you on the ferry). Follow the coastline from Sorrento to the inner Melbourne suburb of St Kilda along the famous Beach Road, known for its 'Hell Ride' because so many cyclists use it on weekends. You'll stay at a hotel in Melbourne. We suggest a 50 km cycle from Sorrento to Mornington for intermediate riders. Advanced cyclists may want to bike all the way to St Kilda (110 km).

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Snacks
