Go island-hopping in the sparkling Adriatic, travelling by mountain bike and yacht.

Kvarner Bay's unique island-world features a turquoise sea and nearly 1200 islands, many settled in Roman times. Mountain biking is the best way to explore village roads, forest tracks, meadows and vineyards not found on maps or the usual tourist trails.

You’ll have a cabin and ensuite on board a motor yacht and enjoy fresh local cuisine. You'll see dramatic cliffs, picturesque beaches and countless small bays.

We'll cycle off each morning after a hearty breakfast, and meet the boat at harbours for lunches, and dinners while the sun sets. In the evenings, stroll through historic harbour towns. At the end of each day, settle in your cabin to sleep, or stay on deck under a thousand stars.

The tour offers a moderate cycling challenge, with hilly and mountainous terrain. Daily distances range from 30–60 km, with no time constraints.

Mild Tours

Mild tours have an expectation that you have an interest and possibly some experience in the activities. Routes chosen will require a reasonable level of fitness and experience on different terrains mild tours are suitable for increasing your activities and pushing yourself to new limits.

Fitness Required

An average level of fitness is required, you will need to be doing some form of exercise two-three times a week during the build up to this tour.

Full Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival Day: Omisalj to Cres

Cycling: 25 km

We depart from Omisalj, a small harbour village on the island of Krk. If you are arriving by car, we can organise a safe parking place for you. We board the yacht from 11 am and at around 1 pm we sail to the island of Cres, a journey of about 4 hours. From the town of Cres, cycle to the village of Predoscica, 350 m above sea level, or join a short guided tour along the harbour bay. In the evening, join a tour of to explore the old town of Cres.

DAY 2

The islands of Cres and Losinj

Cycling: 45 km

In the morning we sail to the fishing village of Martinscica on Cres. We cycle among pine, fig and laurel trees to Osor, a town known for its art and artists. En route we pass Vrana Lake, a freshwater reservoir with a depth to below sea level. After lunch on the boat, we'll have a swim in the bay before setting off again. Leaving Osor, we cross a swing bridge to Losinj and ride the panoramic road to Mali Losinj, an old seafaring and health resort. The boat awaits us in this large harbour, which boasts numerous cafés and colourful houses.

DAY 3

The islands of Losinj and Molat

Cycling: 40 km

This morning we'll cycle along a coastal track to the south of Losinj where we meet the boat for lunch. In the afternoon we cross over to the island of Molat, for one more short bike ride. Our overnight stay is in Molat’s quiet harbour.

DAY 4

The islands of Duji Otok

Cycling: 45 km

As we breakfast on board, the boat will cruise past many small islands to the ‘spice island’ of Dugi Otok (Croatian for ‘long island’). Today’s cycling begins on quiet roads in the bay of Bozava past pine, agave and tamarisk trees. Then, a short stop in Brbinj village with its distinctive thick-towered church. Brbinj has excellent espresso, pancakes and fresh figs. In Savar's harbour we’ll meet the boat for lunch, before cycling to the fishing village of Sali, with its impressive sea and island views.

DAY 5

The islands of Pag and Rab

Cycling: 35 km

After a morning cruise we reach Pag, with its harshly beautiful landscape, and fig and olive trees. Over the centuries locals have built many stone walls for protection from the wind. We bike along the narrow peninsula until we reach the sea, where the boat awaits to take us to Rab, one of the sunniest places in Europe. Rab's eponymous fortified capital is built on a wedge-shaped headland. Its 4 iconic belltowers are a trip highlight. After dinner we can explore the narrow alleys and numerous cosy cafés.

DAY 6

The islands of Rab and Krk

Cycling: 35 km

Today we'll bike along the barren east coast, with craggy rocks and virtually no vegetation, stark as a lunar landscape. We arrive at a sandy beach, more typical of the Kvarner islands. At lunch time the yacht will be waiting for us in the harbour in front of the old town of Rab. This afternoon we'll cycle around the green peninsula to the north of the island before meeting our boat again in Lopar. After a swim we sail over to the neighbouring island of Krk, to spend the evening in its historic town.

DAY 7

The island of Krk

Cycling: 50 km

This morning we'll cycle over the ridge of the island, which is covered by fragrant macchia shrubland, to a valley of vineyards. Then, it's on to the small museum town of Vrbnik in the northeast. The town, built on a 50 m cliff, is the home of the famous white wine Zlahtina (Chasselas). Another unique feature: Vrbnik has the narrowest alley in the world! We continue past old villages and rich vegetation, and take time for a swim in the bay of Soline. Our last night is in Omisalj, within view of Rijeka, Croatia’s 3rd largest city.

DAY 8

Departure Day: Omisalj

No cycling

Time for farewells and to enjoy a last breakfast together, Check out will be after breakfast at 9 am, and then it's goodbye to Croatia's beautiful Adriatic islands.
