Biking is the best way to see rugged coastal Brittany, many people's favourite region in France.

You'll love the welcoming people, rich heritage and great seafood. Biking lets you see all the highways and by-ways of this fishing and farming region.

You'll start and end in the walled town of St-Malo — forbidding from the outside, bustling within. Follow the evergreen Emerald Coast, and see the world-famous island abbey Mont Saint-Michel. There's also interesting flora and fauna, with protected wildlife zones to see en route.

With its Celtic origins and tormented past, Brittany has a fiercely proud regional identity. It also has a unique colour palette — turquoise waters, granite headlands, and cliffs dappled pink and white by the sun.

You'll also see interesting flora and fauna, with protected wildlife zones to see en route.

This self-guided cycling tour offers a mostly flat route on numerous backroads. Daily distances range from 33–70 km. And at the end of your day's cycling, relax in a comfortable hotel or guesthouse, carefully chosen by us for you.

DAY 2

St-Malo to Dinan

Cycling: 45 km

Cycle inland past pretty villages along the Rance River valley's gently winding forested roads. These give way to steep hills leading into Dinan — Brittany’s best-preserved medieval town. There’s plenty of time to explore the cobbled streets on foot. Dinan is one of the most attractive river ports in France, and is brimming with hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. Stop at the Crêperie to taste Breton Crêpes!

Meals: Breakfast

DAY 3

Dinan to Combourg

Cycling: 33 km

Today, meander further inland through quiet countryside and evergreens past amazing dolmen monuments. Combourg's stunning medieval castle comes into view as you approach the town. The castle grounds are open all day. Neighbouring Lac Tranquille is ideal for an evening stroll.

Meals: Breakfast

DAY 4

Combourg to Fougères

Cycling: 70 km

Sens-de-Bretagne, Rimou and other typical villages are en route today. After cycling through the Couesnon River valley and then Tremblay, you pass through forests and by castles to reach Fougères. Take time to explore its multi-levelled medieval fortress, which has stood in proud defence of Brittany's border for more than 1000 years.

Meals: Breakfast

DAY 5

Fougères to Pontorson

Cycling: 45 km

Today you'll ride through rolling countryside featuring cottages festooned with flowers. Enjoy a welcome stop in the village of Saint-Brice-en-Coglès, then head to the Couesnon River banks and the Normand city of Pontorson on the bay of Mont Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Meals: Breakfast

DAY 6

Fougères to Pontorson

Cycling: 53 km

Cycle to France's second most popular tourist destination — Mont-Saint-Michel's medieval Benedictine Abbey and church, perched on a tidal island. Aim to arrive early to beat the crowds. You'll feel transported back in time on the monks' footsteps as you explore the maze of rooms, staircases, and vaulted halls. Later, wind your way across reclaimed land to Cancale, a picturesque fishing harbour. Feast on oysters gathered just a few hundred metres from Cancale's restaurants.

Meals: Breakfast

DAY 7

Cancale to St-Malo

Cycling: 33 km

Cycle alongside sandy beaches and granite coastline with great seascapes. Visit the rocky Pointe du Grouin headland and, at low tide only, the fortress island at L'Anse du Guesclin, one Brittany's most beautiful coves. From there, cycle back to the walled town of St-Malo.
