An average level of fitness is required, you will need to be doing some form of exercise two-three times a week during the build up to this tour.

Full Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival Day: Constance (Konstanz)

No cycling

Welcome to your tour circling Lake Constance (German: Bodensee). Make your own way to the university town of Konstanz on the lake shore, on the Swiss border. How about a visit to Mainau Island's parks and gardens, or a walk through the old town. The Sea Life Centre's aquariums and the Rosgarten Museum are also recommended.

DAY 2

Constance (Konstanz) to Region Stein am Rhein

Cycling: 20-30 km

The first highlight of the day is Reichenau Island in Lake Constance, a World Heritage Site, known for its vegetable farms and its abbey. Then, transfer by boat to the Hori Peninsula on the smaller of the two lakes that make up Lake Constance. This is where the writer Hermann Hesse and the artist Otto Dix once lived. You will stay tonight in the region of the medieval Swiss town Stein am Rhein.

DAY 3

Region Stein am Rhein to Überlingen

Cycling: 45–55 km

We start the day by cycling through the almost completely preserved Swiss medieval town of Stein am Rein before returning to Konstanz along the Swiss shores of the lake. From Wallhausen, a boat takes you to the town of Überlingen on the northern lakeshore. The town has a gothic style cathedral and a beautiful health resort, park and lake walkway.

DAY 4

Überlingen to Kressbronn

Cycling: 50–55 km

From Überlingen the cycle trail takes you past the baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau and through the charming medieval town of Meersburg with its castles. Then, the university city of Friedrichshafen, where the Zeppelin museum is well worth visiting. Ferdinand von Zeppelin built his airship factory there in the 19th century. You'll stay overnight at the village of Kressbronn am Bodensee.

DAY 5

Kressbronn region to Rorschach

Cycling: 44–55 km

Today you will cycle towards the Bavarian town of Lindau, which is picturesquely located on an island. Then, continue towards the Austrian town of Bregenz, famous for its annual drama festival on the largest lake theatre in the world. You will then pass through an important nature reserve on the Rhine delta, before arriving for an overnight stay near Rorschach, in Switzerland, on the southern shore.

DAY 6

Region Rorschach to Konstanz

Cycling: 30–45 km

Your last cycling day leads you through busy Romanshorn, the most important Swiss harbour on Lake Konstanz. On your way back to Konstanz you will pass many villages renowned for their wooden framed houses. You can visit Mainau Island today if you haven't already done so.

DAY 7

Departure Day: Constance

No cycling

Your tour finishes after your hearty German breakfast. However, you can extend your stay if you wish. We leave you with happy memories of beautiful Lake Constance. Auf Wiedersehen!
