DAY 1

Arrival Day: Treviso

No cycling

Arrive in Venice (Marco Polo or Treviso Airport) then tranfser to Treviso (we can arrange this on your behalf). Please join our tour party by 2 pm. We'll start with a short ride around town. Treviso must be one of the most overlooked towns in Italy, overshadowed by its famous neighbour, Venice. Having escaped the hordes of tourists, it retains an authentic charm. Dissected by canals and the Adige River, and encircled by medieval town walls, it's an enchanting place to unwind. The Pinarello bike manufacturers' headquarters are in Trevino (as are Benetton's and De Longhi's).

Meals: Dinner

DAY 2

Treviso to Belluno

Cycling: 80–120 km (4–7 hrs riding), Elevation 694 m

Today we cycle part of the Granfondo Pinarello including the Passo di San Baldo (694 m) at the foothills of the Dolomites. We ride through small villages and vineyards to the unusually charming city of Belluno, protected by the Dolomites, and with its own microclimate. Its fortified towers were an early warning system against threats to the old Republic of Venice. Today, Belluno is a clean, friendly city with hidden romantic corners, good restaurants, and an exciting corso (walkway). Highlights include the church of St Steven (1486), the Rettori palace (1491) and the City Hall.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 3

Belluno to Toblach

Cycling: 90 km, 5–6 hours riding

Today's riding highlight is the 'Tre Cime di Lavaredo' (German: 'Drie Zinnen') — the 3 pillars symbolic of the Dolomites. As we climb higher into a limestone landscape, the roads is flanked by forest until we emerge in the ski resort town of Cortina d'Ampezzo. We cycle via the Passo di Mont Croce di Comelico (German:'Kreuzbergsattel', 1636 m) to mainly German-speaking Toblach (Italian: Dobbiaco) on the Austrian border. There are superbs view of Tre Cime di Lavaredo, rising to 2999 m. Toblach, a favourite of Gustav Mahler, is now a major resort and spa town.

We climb over Passo Tre Croci (1809 m), Passo Falzarego (2105 m) and Passo Campolongo (1675 m) before rolling into Corvara and Kolfuschg village, the highest inhabited area. Corvara is the main centre of Alta Badia, a prestigious tourist area at the top end of the Val Badia valley. Most locals speak the Dolomites' Ladin language.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 5

Corvara to Bolzano

Cycling: 80 km, 5–6 hours riding

From Kolfuschg we roll to Corvara, tackle numerous passes including Passo di Gardena (2121 m), and then pass busy Carazei. Our last climb is Passo di Costalunga (1742 m), with views of Rosengarten's rosy peaks. Then, a long descent down a red gorge called 'Mother Nature's sore throat'. We follow narrow Val d'Ega through a forested valley. Next, the historic centre of Bolzano, with its split German/Italian personality, and ample options for a cappuccino or gelato. We visit the Messner Mountain Museum, designed by extreme climber Reinhold Messner as a mecca for climbers worldwide.

DAY 6

Bolzano to Prado

Cycling: 120 km, 7–8 hours riding

Today we ride through the Stelvio National Park, one of the largest in Europe. The Ortles-Cevedale range rises almost 4000 m, with giant glaciers and towering sheer rock faces. Our tour takes you to the heart of this mountainous world, to crystal-clear glacier lakes and mountain streams. In the morning we climb into vineyards above Bolzano to the top of Passo Mendola (1363 m), with a short descent then another climb, over Passo delle Palade (1518 m). All afternoon we follow the river Adige (Etsch) until we arrive in Prado at the foot of Passo dello Stelvio to stay the night.

This is truly one of the top cycling passes in the world — many say it is the best! The village of Livigno could be described as the capital of Italian cycling. In summer, visitors from around the world come to ride the immense road and trail network for both road and mountain bikers. These roads climb to 3100 m under the Stelvio peaks down to 350 m above sea level.

Your tour ends today. You could say 'ciao' and transfer to Tirano's train station, or stay in Livigno for more adventure.
