Enjoy an epic challenge at 2000 m+ on an Andalusian adventure in southern Spain.

There's hard, rugged road cycling with tough ascents — at times to above 2000 m — and fast-flowing descents.

You'll see mountains, wildlife, and Andalusia's unique pueblos blancos (white towns) with whitewashed houses and red tile roofs. To top it off — friendly people, world-famous art and architecture, and great local cuisine.

This trip is ideal for serious cyclists wanting a challenge, and for recreational cyclists.

DAY 2

Granada to Jódar

Cycling/Elevation: 122 km/1361 m up

After a comfortable night's sleep, we bike to Jódar, reputed to produce the world's best olive oil. This little town in the Andalusian province of Jaén is in the Natural Park Sierra Mágina, which features an enormous diversity of endemic fauna and flora. We begin with a steep climb, rewarded with a spectacular view, passing several villages lining the Sierra Nevada ('snowy range') mountains. The landscapes we ride through are the most stunning attraction today.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 3

Jódar to Arroyo Frio

Cycling/Elevation: 73 km/1098 m up

After breakfast we bike towards the unspoiled Sierra de Cazorla mountain range, which offers surprises at every turn. The unparelleled beauty of the landscape and glimpses of wildlife you'll see will make you long to come back and discover more. On the way to the Sierra de Cazorla — Segura y Las Villas Natural Park, we pass through many beautiful villages including the pretty town of Barunchel at 960 m.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 4

Arroyo Frio to Huéscar

Cycling/Elevation: 134 km/1967 m up

Are you up for a challenge? Today is the longest and hardest day of the trip. We cross the entire Natural Park de Cazorla, cycling part way around the reservoir Pantano del Tranco, where we can see animals including squirrels, deer, the Iberian ibex, and many others. From the small town Santiago de la Espada on the border between the provinces of Jaén and Albacete, we cycle on to the city of Huéscar, the northernmost town of the province of Granada, known for stately homes and excellent meats. We will stay in Huéscar overnight.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 5

Huéscar to Abla

Cycling/Elevation: 105 km/1520 m up

Get ready for a fantastic experience as we cross the Sierra de Baza — another Natural Park. Its peculiar red limestone landscape shows incredible forms carved by weather and erosion over thousands of years. After some flat cycling we face a spectacular but challenging pass of incomparable beauty. At 2400 m we have stunning panoramic views of the scenery and modern windmills, which are producing some of Andalusia's energy. We stay overnight in the village of Abla with its whitewashed stone houses.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 6

Abla to Trevélez

Cycling/Elevation: 98 km/2128 m up

Today takes us to the Natural Park of Sierra Nevada. First — a gentle climb past whitewashed villages. Then the highlight: a sharp ascent to Trevélez, a steep-sloped gastronomic wonderland. At an average altitude of 1476 m, it's Andalusia's highest village, and one of the highest in Spain. The town centre is in 3 parts: Alto, Medio and Bajo - the lowest point at 1400 m, and the highest 1650 m. The lower 2 parts are linked by the main street, simply called 'Cuesta' ('slope'). The cold Trevélez river is famous for trout, and the village's trout-themed tapas, hams and cheeses are all legendary.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

DAY 7

Trevélez to Alhama De Granada

Cycling: 130 km

After the amazing sights and gastronomic delights of Trevélez, we cruise downhill towards Alhama de Granada. We pass enchanting mountain villages, and see factories that bottle mineral water from the mountain streams. We pass through the Sierra de Los Guájares, which unlike many other regions is lush and green. Highlights include two reservoirs of melting mountain waters, Béznar and Bermejales. We arrive in the beautiful ancient spa town of Alhama de Granada in the afternoon.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
