You'll pedal paved Chilean backroads alongside friendly locals through rolling meadows. You'll visit ethnic villages and relax in soothing natural hot springs.

The route traverses the unspoiled, lightly traveled countryside north of Patagonia. You'll see iconic Argentinian scenery such as the Road of the 7 Lakes, and leave the country via a victorious descent over the mountains. You'll visit 5 national parks, and hike to Chile’s breathtaking Petrohue Falls.

Expert guide Ernesto, a former national road and mountain biking champion, and is passionate about the region, plants, wildlife, and culture. As well as great riding, you'll love the local wine and cuisine, which has Spanish, Italian and German influences.

You'll need to be fit to take part in the full distances. The tour is ideal for groups of riders with different abilities who want to travel and bike together. A support vehicle is always available.

Hard Tours

Hard tours are designed for the more experienced participant wishing to push themselves and experience new highs of achievement. Routes will include longer climbs and more technical skills.

Fitness required

A good level of fitness is required, you will need to be exercising three-four times a week prior to the tour.

Full Itinerary

DAY 1

Arrival Day, Chile: Temuco to Malalcahuello

No cycling

Our staff will meet you at Temuco Airport in Chile's Araucania Region, and transfer you to Malalcahuello in a protected area in the Andes. Here here you can enjoy a soothing thermal bath at our gorgeous 5 star hotel and spa resort — the perfect way to relax after your flight! Our guides will help you assemble/fit your bike. In the evening, we’ll have an orientation and briefing session.

DAY 2

Malalcahuello loop ride

Cycling: 81 to 102 km

Today we'll warm up for our tour with an easy spin on a quiet and scenic road alongside the Lonquimay River for 60 km. There's a challenging 21 km climb up Pino Hachado (1884 m), where we’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Andes and 5 volcanoes.

DAY 3

Malalcahuello loop ride

Cycling: 84 km

From the village of Malalcahuello, we’ll ride down valley and alongside the Cautín River, and descend through the foothills to the beautiful town of Curacautín. As we leave town, we’ll begin climbing and enjoy beautiful views of the Llaima, Lonquimay and Tolhuaca volcanos. Our 5 star lakeside hotel in the large town of Pucón offers wonderful views, a pool and a spa.

DAY 4

Pucón loop ride

Cycling: 68 to 103 km

Today we'll cycle to the village of Caburgua and stop for a snack by the glacial lake. Your guide will identify species of birds and trees for you, as we ride through beautiful farmland with views of the majestic, snow-capped Villarrica Volcano, one of Chile's most active volcanoes. If we're lucky, we'll see smoke coming out of its top! We'll stop at Huife Hot Springs for a soothing soak in a mineral bath, and ride or shuttle back to Pucón. The evening is yours to explore Pucón's shops, restaurants, bars and cafés. Your guides will be happy to offer recommendations.

DAY 5

Villarrica Volcano ride

Cycling: 53 to 90 km

Today’s route travels along the shores of two beautiful lakes, Calafquén and Panguipulli, and most of the way around the Villarrica Volcano. We’ll ride through picturesque lakeside towns along roads bordered by green prairie and native forests. We'll enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach at Calafquén Lake. After lunch, we’ll follow a smooth, quiet road where cars are scarce. At one point along this section we’ll have a view of 5 volcanos! End the day with a relaxing soak at our 5 star wilderness resort.

DAY 6

Travel to San Martin de los Andes, Argentina

No cycling

After breakfast at our beautiful resort, we'll leave Chile and travel to Argentina by ferry. Once in Argentina, we'll enjoy lunch by a lake before heading to our 4 star hotel. Dinner is on your own tonight, so you are free explore the charming village of San Martin de los Andes and its restaurants, bars and cafés. Our guides are happy to provide recommendations.

DAY 7

San Martin loop ride

Cycling: 106 km

Today we'll ride the famous ‘Road of the 7 lakes’, a well-known scenic road once traveled by Ernesto ‘Che’ Guevara on his motorcycle. The lakes include Lacar, Espejo, Correntoso, Escondido, Villarino, Falkner and Machonico. Our route passes 4 of the 7 lakes, and follows rolling terrain through the Andean-Patagonian forest.

DAY 8

San Martin de los Andes to Argentinian Patagonia Steppe

Cycling: 80 to 156 km

Today’s challenging route takes us across the beautiful Argentinean Patagonia Steppe on a varied route that includes rolling hills, long flat stretches, and a great 7 km climb. The terrain will differ from previous days as we enter the Pampas region, with grasslands and higher mountains with jagged rocks. We'll most likely see wildlife along our route such as guanacos (llamas), ñandus (large flightless birds, similar to ostriches), condors, and red deer. After a fantastic ride, we’ll arrive at our hotel, located in a tiny village popular with cyclists and fishermen.

DAY 9

Patagonia Steppe to Lake Nahuel Huapi

Cycling: 86 to 124 km

Today's route follows a gorgeous river for 40 km with magnificent views of a majestic, jagged-rock mountain range. Keep an eye out for wildlife such as guanacos, ñandu, deer, wild boar, skunks, foxes and birds of prey. We'll ride alongside Lake Nahuel Huapi, a generally flat road with easy rolling sections. Some of the best views in the country can be seen from its beaches. We’ll check into our 4 star hotel and spa, and the evening is yours to explore the town, to shop or take a dip in the hotel’s heated pool.

DAY 10

Lake Nahuel Huapi to Hito Samoré pass to Osorno, Chile

Cycling: 87 km

Today's route takes us over Hito Samoré pass (1300 m), where we can enjoy an excellent view of the heart of the Andes mountain range. We finish our ride with a thrilling 22 km descent into Chile. Then, it's a short drive to our fantastic 5 star hotel and spa resort.

DAY 11

Osorno to Puerto Otay to Puerto Varas

Cycling: 86 km

This will be another picturesque day on our bikes, with the lake on one side, green pastures and fields on the other, and the snow-capped Andes in the distance. We’ll start our ride towards Puerto Octay. Puerto Octay is a small, charming village with a strong German heritage, located on the north shore of Lake Llanquihue. This area has a unique and beautiful landscape, marked by the Osorno Volcano with its perfect cone. Once we reach the lakeside town of Frutillar we’ll jump in the van and drive 40 minutes to 'the city of roses', Puerto Varas.

DAY 12

Puerto Varas and the Osorno Volcano

Cycling: 58 km + optional steep 12 km

Our final day of riding offers some of the best scenery of the tour with great views of Lake Llanquihue and the cone of the Osorno Volcano that rises from the lakeshore. We'll ride through this astounding landscape on our way to the village of Ensenada and continue to the astonishing Petrohue Falls, where we'll stop for a visit. We'll finish the day by relaxing at our four-star hotel and spa, and enjoy a farewell dinner at a seafood restaurant. Ride option : Bike up the Osorno Volcano — one of the steepest climbs in South America! (12 km/1143 m)

DAY 13

Departure Day: Puerto Montt

No cycling

We'll say our good-byes over a final breakfast and then transfer you to the airport in the southern city of Puerto Montt Airport for flights back home. Alternatively, you may choose to extend your stay in Chile.
